Die junge Portugiesin Adriana Lopes ist erst seit kurzem bei 1st Place Models, ihr Auftragsbuch ist aber schon unglaublich voll. Als Model bewundert sie Mona Tougaard. „Sie inspiriert mich sehr.“
Ihre Model-Karriere startete Adriana bei Elite Models Worldwide in Lissabon, einer der größten und besten Agenturen der Welt. Vor wenigen Monaten wechselte sie zum österreichischen Modelmanager Dominik Wachta, der seine Agentur 1st Place Models von Madrid aus betreibt. Die Agentur hat auch ein Österreich-Office und wurde hierzulande die letzten beiden Jahre vom Austrian Modelbusiness Club jeweils zur „Agentur des Jahres“ gekürt.
Ich traf Adriana mit Dominik vor einiger Zeit bei einem ihrer vielen Shootings in Wien, wo sie sich die Zeit für ein paar Fragen nimmt.

Wolltest Du immer schon ein Model werden? Ich war für schon als Kind sehr groß und alle sagten zu mir, dass ich ein Model werden sollte. Erst wollte ich das nicht, bis ich auf Instagram Posts von Topmodel Mona Tougaard sah. Ich weiß nicht genau, aber ich fand, sie wäre wie ich oder ich wie sie. Daraufhin ging ich zu meiner ersten Modelagency in Lissabon und machte meine ersten Shootings. Und nun bin ich hier in Wien bei 1 st Place Models.
Was ist für Dich bei einer Agentur sehr wichtig? Sie hat ihre Models zu beschützen, darauf zu achten, dass sie sich wohlfühlen und ihnen die Sicherheit geben, dass sie ihrer Agentur vertrauen können.

Welche Qualitäten muss ein Model haben, um erfolgreich zu sein? Ich bin (noch) kein internationales Model, aber als erstes musst du wissen, was du wirklich machen und erreichen willst, und dir eine Strategie dazu überlegen. Und natürlich musst du dir eine sehr gute Agentur suchen und schauen, welche Möglichkeiten du bei ihr hast. Als sehr junger Mensch ist es auch ganz wichtig, mit deinen Eltern über alles zu sprechen, finde ich.
Was haben Deine Eltern gesagt, als Du ihnen mitgeteilt hast, dass Du ein Model werden willst? Sie haben mich immer unterstützt. Natürlich ist es auch ein bisschen schwer für sie, mich jetzt in all diese Länder reisen zu sehen. Ich habe einen 20 Jahre älteren Bruder und als Mädchen wäre ich normalerweise zu Hause geblieben. Jetzt sind sie allein. Aber das ist das Einzige, was sie ein bisschen traurig macht, ansonsten lieben sie es, meine Bilder zu sehen, meine Modenschauen und Shootings. Sie sind sehr stolz auf mich.
Ist social media sehr wichtig für Models? Ja, auf Instagram können Kunden mich, meine Sedcard und noch mehr sehen.

Du hattest mit fünf Buchungen gleich in der ersten Woche bei 1st Place Models einen großartigen Start? Es war wirklich amazing, alle sind großartig hier.
Was macht Dir am ‚Model-Dasein‘ am meisten Freude? Ich denke, ich liebe die Art und Weise, wie wir Menschen treffen und wie wir miteinander auskommen. Es ist so einfach, mit Models in Kontakt zu kommen, sich mit ihnen anzufreunden – meist ist es so, als würden wir uns schon seit Jahren kennen.
Und als internationales Model kannst du so viel von der Welt sehen, so viele unterschiedliche Menschen und Kulturen kennen lernen.
Also Dein großer Traum ist es, ein internationales Model zu werden? Kürzlich habe ich meine ersten Angebote von anderen Agenturen für Mailand und Paris erhalten, die wirklich toll waren. Und ja, ein erfolgreiches internationales Model zu werden, ist mein Traum.

Gibt es ein Label, für das Du besonders gerne einmal arbeiten würdest? Oh ja, das gibt es. Es ist mein großer Traum, einmal mit Donatella Versace arbeiten zu dürfen. Sie ist mir sehr sympathisch, ich liebe diese Marke und ich bewundere die Models, die für sie arbeiten. Ich liebe einfach alles von Versace.
Du bist gerade 18 Jahre alt geworden, wie gehst Du mit Deinem raschen Erfolg um? Es ist nicht einfach, aber es ist auch nicht schwer. Ich denke, ich weiß, wenn mir etwas nicht passt und es nicht gut für mich ist. Dann sage ich das oder lasse es gleich bleiben. Ich weiß auch, wo meine Grenzen liegen, das alles ist für mich eine natürliche Sache.

The young Portuguese has only recently joined 1st Place Models, but her order book is already incredibly full. As a model, she admires Mona Tougaard. „She inspires me a lot.“
Adriana started her modeling career at Elite Models Worldwide in Lisbon, one of the biggest and best agencies in the world. A few months ago, she moved to Austrian model manager Dominik Wachta, who runs his agency 1st Place Models from Madrid. The agency also has an Austria office and was named „Agency of the Year“ in this country by the Austrian Modelbusiness Club each of the last two years.
I met Adriana with Dominik some time ago at one of her many shoots in Vienna, where she takes the time to answer a few questions.
Did you always want to be a model?
I was very tall already as a child and everyone said to me that I should become a model. At first I didn’t want to, until I saw posts on Instagram from top model Mona Tougaard. I don’t know exactly, but I thought she was like me or I was like her. As a result, I went to my first modelagency in Lisbon and did my first shoots. And now I am here in Vienna with 1 st Place Models.
What is very important for you in an agency?
A agency has to protect their models, make sure they feel comfortable and give them the security that they can trust their agency.
What qualities does a model need to be successful?
I’m not an international model (yet), but the first thing you need to know is what you really want to do and achieve, and come up with a strategy to do it. And of course you have to find a very good agency and see what opportunities you have with them. As a very young person, it’s also quite important to talk to your parents about everything, I think.
What did your parents say when you told them you wanted to be a model?
They have always supported me. Of course, it’s also a bit hard for them to see me traveling to all these countries now. I have a brother 20 years older than me and as a girl I would have normally stayed at home. Now they are alone. But that’s the only thing that makes them a little sad, otherwise they love seeing my pictures, my fashion shows and shoots. They are very proud of me.
Is social media very important for models?
Yes, on Instagram clients can see me, my sedcard and more.
You had a great start with five bookings in the very first week at 1 st Place Models?
It was really amazing and everyone is great here.
What do you enjoy most about being a model?
I think I love the way we meet people and the way we get along. It’s so easy to connect with models, to become friends with them – most of the time it’s like we’ve known each other for years.
And as an international model you get to see so much of the world, meet so many different people and cultures.
So your big dream is to become an international model?
I recently got my first offers from other agencies for Milan and Paris, which were really great. And yes, becoming a successful international model is my dream.
Is there a label you would particularly like to work for one day?
Oh yes, there is. It’s my big dream to be able to work with Donatella Versace one day. I like her very much, I love this brand and I admire the models who work for her. I just love everything from Versace.
You just turned 18, how do you deal with your rapid success?
It’s not easy, but it’s not hard either. I think I know when something doesn’t suit me and it’s not good for me. Then I say so or don’t do it at all. I also know where my limits are, it’s all a natural thing for me.
